Climate archaeology: temporalities and ontologies

TAG 44: Norwich

Welcome

Hello and welcome to TAG 44 Norwich!

18th-20th December 2023 at the University of East Anglia

The Theoretical Archaeology Group conference will be hosted in Norwich this year, and we are building on the University’s well-acknowledged in research and teaching strengths in the study of landscapes and objects past and present, climate change science, and creative writing.

Norwich is a fine city with much to interest those who study archaeology. One of the great regional museums, Norwich Castle, will house the British Museum’s medieval collections from summer 2023. UEA campus lies a short distance from the city centre and itself hosts a world-famous collection of art at the Sainsbury Centre Art Gallery and Museum, which will be a key part of the setting for the conference and one with much to stimulate discussion and thought.

Norwich also has a great range of accommodation including cheap hotels and hostels close by along with cafes, shops and restaurants. Norwich is a wonderful place to explore; both the Castle and Cathedral date from just after the Norman conquest; there are numerous fine buildings and city-scapes and the place is at its best at this time of year dressed in its Christmas attire. There is also great scope for visits to key Norfolk archaeological places of interest like Grimes Graves, Sea Henge, and Happisburgh.

We look forward to welcoming you to Norwich, and will have an exciting schedule of events and visits as well as a programme of talks which will allow us to exchange ideas, meet old friends and make new ones.

Throughout, we will continue to add content to our website and communicate it via social media For any queries, please contact us at Climate.TAG@uea.ac.uk
